Philippine Scout Heritage Society (PSHS) Memorial Service on the Clark Veteran Cemetery

The Philippine Scout Heritage Society (PSHS) held their 28th National Annual Reunion in the Republic of the Philippines for the first time ever. The main venue of the reunion was the former Fort Stotsenburg, then the ex Clark Air Base, now the Clark Development Corporation (CDC).

On the 8th April the PSHS, VFW Posts 2485 & 9892, CDC, the Philippine Air Force, many Philippine Scout reenactors and others held a memorial service to the Scouts on the Clark Veterans Cemetery.

Veteran Jon Gilbert, Senior Vice Commander and Cemetery Chairman of VFW Post 2485 told us that he set up the memorial site in the middle of the cemetery because all around in this area lie about 600+ Philippine Scouts.

His cemetery organization from the VFW Post 2485 and their Officers and members set up the tents, chairs and everything else that is needed for such large memorial service.  The VFW Post 9892 Commander and senior Officers from Bauang participated. They recently played a major part in honoring the First Asian and Filipino MOH Recipient Jose Baliton Nisperos. His descendants were also present.

WWII Scout Veteran Felipe Fernandez told us emotionally by name of the close friends he lost in the WWII struggle.

The Philippine Reenactors from the Central Luzon area, Manila and Hong Kong gave the WWII Scouts, who attended and all the veterans in this cemetery a most proper salute. They were dressed in the WWII Scout uniforms, had 3 WWII Jeeps and some were on horses.

Three of the Stateside WWII Scout visitors were from the 26th Cavalry of Fort Stotsenburg. Scout Dan Figuracion participated in the last US Army Cavalry Charge in Morong Town, just south and adjacent of our great ex US Naval Base Subic Bay. Scout Eulalio Arzaga Was maybe the first Scout who encountered the Japanese at Lingayan Gulf.

The Philippine Air Force supported this Memorial Service with a band, bugle and a 21 Rifle Salute Squad.

Last but not least all the local Members of the Philippine Chapters of the PSHS done a most outstanding job of organizing the Scout Reunion the first time ever outside the US. I could see how big of a job it was bringing everything together.

Sorry, but I recall only three of the names of the WWII Scouts who attended, I believe there were a total of six or seven. They all must have been 90 years  plus in age.

Here are 113 images with only short tiles and medium resolution of the Memorial Service:

We have also this forum page about the PSHS Reunion:

PSHS 28th Reunion at Clark, CDC, 1st Day

Philippine Scout Heritage Society (PSHS) 28th Annual Reunion, 1st Day, arrive, get to know, speakers, Forgotten Soldiers, Banquet.

The Stotsenberg Hotel on CDC was chosen as the venue.

Fort Stotsenburg was the name of the Fort, home of the Philippine Scouts and after WWII it became the Clark Air Force Base. Then it became the Clark Development  Corporation (CDC). The Reunion was held in the Stotsenberg Hotel. I don’t know whether the owners made a mistake or deliberately choose this name. But this sometime causes confusion as to Stotsenberg or Stotsenburg.

This was the program for the first day:

This album has 59 images, the names of some of the speakers are in the image titles:

PSHS 28th Reunion, Displays, Artifacts, Clark, RP, 7th April 2012

For the Philippine Scout Heritage Society (PSHS) 28th Annual Reunion, all these displays and artifacts were presented. It was all at the reunion venue, the Stotsenberg Hotel at the Clark Development Corporation (CDC), the ex Clark Air Base. I know it is confusing but the name of the fort was Stotsenburg and the name of this hotel is Stotsenberg. This album has 54 Images, images have very short titles but the images can be downloaded at about 600KB on average:
http://pisailor.multiply.com/photos/album/110/PSHS_28th_Reunion_Displays_Artifac...

I believe, we have to thank Philip Garcia for all these poster displays and all the MOH Recipients framed pictures. The artifact, I assume, came from the PSHS Members and the Philippine Reenactors.

Here are some sample pictures:

PSHS Fort McKinley Chapter Poster

PSHS 28th Reunion Souvenir Program

Forgotten Soldiers Poster

Forgotten Soldiers, Ortigas Foundation INC presents:

PSHS Artifacts

PSHS Artifacts

PSHS 28th Annual Reunion Registration Desk

Philippine Scout insignia Poster

Hi guys,

Well, what can i say. 4 days of blood, sweat and tears but not an iota to compare to what those men did and sacrificed for future generations. I hope we gave them a fitting tribute. Here are but a few highlights from this year's Philippine Scouts Heritage Society Annual Reunion. the first ever here in the Philippines. Before i post the photos I'd like to give thanks to our officers who worked their asses off to make sure this thing got rolling. Chapter president Jojo Die (hehe), Treasurer Jojo Nicolas, Teresa and Coony Romero, Philip Garcia...Your efforts have paid off. Now relax and have a cold one. I'm bound not to have mentioned a few names so please understand. My brain is still recovering from a 12 hour whirlwind van ride to and from ilocos.

Many thanks to all the reenactors! HK LRRP, BNK and PSHS, MVCCP, Japanese Clark Community and lone wolves who all came in and lent a huge hand to us.

Most of the Photos are from April 8 and 9, April 7, and 10 photos to follow. - in fact a whole lot more photos to follow.

The venue:

The Clark Cemetery:

The color guard awaits:

The Philippine airforce provided a band and firing squad:

April 8 (am) Dan figuracion, Felipe Fernandez and Eulalio Arzaga of the 26th Cavalry arrives in style:

An appropriate horse escort led the parade:

The riders were Rudy Cabigas, Jojo Nicolas, Erich Nicolas and Dennis Nicolas:

Rudy in his element:

Jojo looks every bit as dashing:

John Gilbert from the local VFW and Historian Prof. Rico Jose:

Felipe Fernandez walks to the Cemetery Venue:

PSHS reenactor color guard with representatives from the PI, HK and UK:

Mc Kinley Chapter President Jojo Dy:

John Gilbert, Joe Calugas and Gil Mislang Address the audience:

Felipe Fernandez's moving eulogy. As he mentioned the names of his fallen friends and comrades, taps was played. There was not a dry eye in the audience:

Eulalio Arzaga renders a smart salute as his comrades unveil a commemorative plaque:

David Banaghan chats with Felipe:

The afternoon was taken up with a reenactment battle showing the exploits of the 26th Cavalry (PS), the 57th Infantry (PS), The 41st infantry Division (PA) and Takeo Imai's 141st Regiment IJA:

The gathered troops await the rehearsal in the scorching sun:

the IJA makes its entry:

A screening force of 26th cavalry enter the field and engage the invading force:

The scene is re-set as the 57th infantry enters the field:

The first Japanese artillery shells hit home:

Imai's 141st begins its charge:

Japanese support weapons deploy:

The Philippine Scouts return fire:

The Japanese troops rally and charge. A melee ensues within the USAFFE lines as the 41st infantry assaults the Japanese spearhead:

The battle has ended, allied troops help the wounded and search the dead:

Philip presents the Men of the allied force:

The IJA rally their troops, Mr. Fukuda gives a stirring speech and they deliver their final Banzai!

Erich looked splendid as a horse soldier of the 26th:

Next report: The ceremony at Mt. Samat.

Thanks for looking folks!

I just want to convey my deepest thanks to all those PSHS members who contributed videos and photos that documented the 2012 Reunion of the PSHS in Pampanga (my grandfather's home province). I am proud to be a descendant (grandson) of a Philippine Scout.

Grandfather: 1st Sgt. Francisco B. Bautista

GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINE SCOUTS!
