VA seeks former POWs
Dec 04th, 2007, 12:18pm

On page 51 of the December 2007 issue of The American Legion Magazine there is a short article entitled "Former POWs Sought."  Former prisoners of war not currently using VA benefits and services are urged to contact the VA to find out if they are eligible for health care, disability compensation and services.  More than 25,000 former POWs are alive today, many of whom have not been in touch with the VA and may be unfamiliar with a number of new benefits, including help for surviving spouses and family members.

The government's effort to inform former POWs about improvements in benefits faces a particular hurdle with older veterans who may not have been touch with the VA for decades.

Former POWs should contact the VA at (800) 827-1000.  Details about benefits and services available are also online at www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/benefits/pow/index.htm.
